There has been a lot of speculation and trepidation about the future of TextMate
recently, mostly about whether there will be another major release.
Work on 2.0 began and while we wish it could have been completed faster
we are very pleased with how it is turning out. Development has reached
a point finally where we can make an announcement: There will be a
public alpha release this year, before Christmas, for registered users.

I find it so hard to believe that it was only a month ago that i didn’t
know how to boil and egg and no i can actually cook dinner for my family
instead of my wife always have to do it lol

TextMate 1.0.2 came out on 10 December 2004. In the series of TextMate 1.1 betas, TextMate gained features: a preferences window with a GUI for
creating and editing themes; a status bar with a symbol list; menus for
choosing language and tab settings, and a “bundle editor” for editing
language-specific customizations. On 6 January 2006, Odgaard released
TextMate 1.5, the first “stable release” since 1.0.2.[8] Reviews were positive, and many reviewers who had previously criticised the program now endorsed it.

The most vital shortcut in TextMate is ⌃⌘T (Bundles → Select Bundle Item…). It will show any Command/Snippet/Macro available in the current scope and lets you filter the list.
